Purchase a copy at Amazon.com April 25th, 2008 Welcome to the new Rio Rich website! Carnival weekend starts on the Friday before Ash Wednesday. Carnival can be from late January to early March. The Carnival offically starts on that Saturday and is 4 days long.In Rio, the main Carnival parade is held on Sunday and Monday night. The parade is located in the samba stadium (Sambodromo). It starts at 9pm and ends at about 7am.There are a total of 12 schools that perform during both nights. It takes about 1 and a half hours for each school to complete the walk through the stadium. Each school gets judged and the bottom 2 schools are replaced for next year's Carnival.Once the Carnival is over, the next Saturday night (Night of the Champions) the top 6 schools parade all over again in the sambodromo. The schools perform in reverse order having the champions perform last. The tickets are cheaper for this night. The section in the sambodromo that I like most is near the Bateria (drums) pit. This is sector 3 and it is located at the front, where the schools begin their walk.Mocidade is my favorite samba school. They have the best drums/drummers. Someday they will win again...... 6 One of the things Rio is famous for are the spectacular beaches. The two main beaches that I hang out at are Copacabana and Ipanema. These are two of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Both beaches have beautiful girls and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxing. Beer and Caipirinha (Brazil's national cocktail) are sold everywhere along the beaches. People are always playing soccer, volleyball and footvolley. It's a fantastic place and I would recommend going there to anyone. Brazil has the prettiest women in the world! If you love dancing, drinking and eating; or just watching those "Bum Bum" bikini Girls; Rio is perfect. Rio has alot of transvestites. So the girl you see, may not be a girl at all. All the women on my site were born female. Help disco closed; Jan 6th, 2010. Ipanema is also one of my favorite spots to hang out at. This is the city where the song Girl From Ipanema(Garota de Ipanema) originated. It was composed by Vincinus Morais and Antonio Carlos Jobim, who were sitting and watching the girls on the beach. When walking to the beach I never thought I would love a city more than New York. You can always take a cab, bus or walk to Ipanema from Copacabana. The apartments in Ipanema are a little bit more expensive than some other places. They run from about $90 and up a day.Check out the gallery to view photos of the the Girl From Ipanema Restaurant, the Bum Bum Bikinis store, and much more. One of the places you must visit when going to Rio is Corcovado. Corcovado is a mountain visible within city limits and is known for its statue of Jesus atop its peak. The statue is entitled Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer). There are a couple of ways to get to the top of Corcovado. Just remember to bring your camera and camcorder, because the view from the observation deck is beautiful. At the peak of Corcovado you can see almost all of Rio.Check out the gallery to view some of the pictures. Sambodromo 2008 is the new DVD displaying footage from the 2008 Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.
